In his own words: Paul Sinders, candidate for Clay Co. Commissioner

Monday, October 30, 2006

Dear Clay County Voters:

I am Paul Sinders and I want to serve you as your Clay County Commissioner.

I have been honored to serve you as a teacher and pricipal for 41 years in the Clay Community Schools. During this time period, I have had the opportunity to work with many great parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, students and citizens throughout Clay County. Now, I am asking to serve you as your Clay County Commissioner.

I know money is tight in our county, and taxes are a major concern with property owners. As your county commissioner, I believe in fiscal responsibility in the expenditure of tax money, and to arrive at common sense solutions for problems and concerns. Working as a pricipal for 28 years, I made it a priority to purchase supplies and equipment at the lowest prices to ensure that the taxpayer's money was being spent wisely. I expect to continue with my philosophy of prudent spending and wise purchasing.

I have been a life long resident of Clay County. I have always believed that Clay County is a great place to live, work, receive an education, attend church and to raise a family.

I was raised on a small livestock and grain farm in Clay County. I graduated from Clay City High School and Indiana State University. I have been married to Shari Stearley of Center Point for 40 years. We have five children and six grandchildren. I am a property and small farm owner and I understand the concerns with our tax dollars.

I have served on numerous church leadership positions including Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Chairperson of Pulpit Committees and Chairperson of Scholarship Committees. I also served two terms on the State Board of Directors for the American Baptist Churches of Indiana, and 20 years on the Indiana State University American Baptist Campus Ministry Board of Directors, and as the Treasurer.

I am a member of the Clay County and the Wabash Valley Community Foundation Board of Directors, Clay County YMCA Board of Directors, member of the Wabash Valley Youth for Christ Board of Directors, and a member of the Clay City Youth for Christ Support Committee.

I am also a member of the Farm Bureau, the Indiana Rural Health Association, and a member of the Advisory Board for the Clay City Center for Family Medicine. I am a member of the Clay County and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

I support our men and women in the military as they serve our nation around the world. I am also very grateful for our many Veterans who have served the United States with honor and distinction.

I now want to give back to Clay County by working for the people. I believe, with my years of experience as principal, and working with school budgets, working with people of all ages, and working with people from different parts of the county, I am qualified and experienced to assume the responsibilities of a Commissioner.

I look forward to working with our two elected County Commissioners, and with all of the other Clay County elected officials and public servants. I believe strongly that we must all work together to build reasonable budgets, and to work for the common good of the citizens of Clay County.

I am asking for the support and vote of Republicans, Democrats and Independents. By working together, we can do great things for our county. I will be very grateful and thankful for your support of my candidacy for Clay County Commissioner.

I would be honored to receive your vote on Election Day for Clay County Commissioner. May God bless Clay County! Thank you.

-Paul Sinders
