The Coal City Festival has been scheduled for Aug. 17-19.
Several events will take place during the festival.
The festival will kickoff Friday, Aug. 17, with a pet contest, which will take place at the shelter house, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Judging will take place at 7:30 p.m. and winners will be announced at 7:45 p.m.
The evening will continue with a Karaoke contest at 8 p.m. in addition to a Euchre Tournament, also at 8 p.m., at the firehouse.
Events begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, as flea markets, vendors and craft booths will open.
A junior 3-on-3 basketball tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m. near the Coal City General Store as will the baby contest/'Lil Grouch and Grouchette contest, which will take place at the shelter house.
A free merchandise drawing will take place at 10:30 a.m.
A parade, featuring the 2007 "Old Grouch" will begin at 11 a.m.
The Coal City Volunteer Fire Dept. will provide a Jonah Fish Fry from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 18.
Polka Dot the Clown will also offer children's activities from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 18 while a Kiddie Tractor Pull has been scheduled near the general store for 2 p.m.
Air-Evac will conduct a helicopter demonstration from 4-5 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner -- sponsored by the Owen County Fishing Team -- is planned for 5-8 p.m.
The Salt Cured Band, featuring bluegrass and country music, will perform from 6- p.m. ug. 18 and a horseshoe pitching contest is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. behind the general store.
The festival will continue on Aug. 19 with a Hog Roast Dinner at 11 a.m. The dinner is being sponsored by Lewis Fender and will take place at the firehouse.
Throughout the festival, the Coal City Market will serve ribeye sandwiches and butterfly pork chop plate dinners in addition to ice cream.
