Virgil and Mary Jo Butts, of Butts-Pell & Associates, Brazil, recently attended the 58th National Auctioneers Association convention. The annual event was held at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.
With the theme of "Sold On Great Ideas and Great People," the week long event featured numerous workshops on both personal property and real estate. Butts, a past NAA director and a Hall of Famer, attended several dealing with the sale of real estate at public auction in the ever-changing industry. In addition to seminars and workshops, the annual association meeting and election of 2008 officers, committee meetings, luncheons and banquets, fun auctions, and a large trade show were held.
A Caribbean-styled opening night event was held poolside complete with buffet and live music. The conventioneers enjoyed casual camaraderie among the vast grounds that boast more than 3,000 blooming rose bushes and over 2,500 palm trees.
An added attraction to the couple's western trip was getting to meet their 19-month-old great-granddaughter, Kendall Rae Courtright. After the convention, they drove up the coast to Santa Maria, Calif., where they spent three days visiting with their granddaughter, Shawna, and her husband, Joe. Shawna formerly lived in Brazil.
