Knights score Nashville wins

Thursday, August 23, 2007

NASHVILLE -- Conditions were less than ideal for Tuesday's cross country meet at Brown County. But for the Northview Knights, the results were plenty satisfying as both the boys and girls teams earned victories.

"It was a very warm and humid day and all things considered we ran fairly well," commented Northview boys's coach Chad Smith. "There is always room for improvement, but right now we are running for the end of the year. Hopefully we can compete in the WIC and advance on through the state tournament."

The boys' team was led by third and fourth place finishes from Landry Moore and Chris Smith with Conor Strain coming in fifth for the Knights. The 3-4-5 finish helped to counter Shakamak's double barrel attack of Anthony Witt and Drew Gambill who ran 1-2 in the meet.

Witt was dominant in the heat, beating his teammate by more than a minute with a time of 16:20 to Gambill's 17:34.

Kylee Thacker had much the same effect on the girls' field, winning the meet by over a minute as Brown County's Brittney Wagler was the runnerup in 21:52 to Thacker's time of 20:32.

The girls won their meet with a team score of 25 to second place Shakamak's 43. Owen Valley was third with 57 and Brown County had an incomplete team.

Casandra Barnett raced home in fourth place for the Knights with Corey Laue in sixth and Allie True in ninth place. Jennifer Jeffers had an 11th place followed by Marissa Bryan in 17th.

The boys scored a narrow 26 to 33 win over the Lakers with neither the host Eagles or Owen Valley fielding complete teams.

Moore had a time of 17:49 to place third with Smith next in 18:05. Strain had an 18:36 for fifth. Ryan Lutes was in eighth place for the Knights with Eli Kirby in 10th. Kolby Henke took 12th followed by E.C. Moody in 13th, Tanner Brown was 14th and Jordan Maurer was 15th.

The Knights will compete in the Rushville Invitational on Saturday.
