There is no short of familiarity between Northview's girls' golf team and their Vigo County rivals. The Knights have already competed against Terre Haute North and South several times this season in tournament play.

As the Braves have each time this year, they came away with a victory over the Knights, this time on Northview's home course at Forest Park.

That loss is made all the more frustrating because the Knights played perhaps their best overall round of the season only to see the Braves escape with a seven stroke victory while the Patriots finished a distant third.

"That's a tie for our lowest round of the year, so I can't complain," admitted Northview coach Josh Trout. "Terre Haute South hit some great shots today and there isn't much you can do about that."

The Braves' No. 4 player, Kelsey Fuqua, might have been the savior of the match for South whose No. 3 golfer had a bit of an off match with a round of 48. Meanwhile, the Knights got a very nice round of 44 from Olivia Oehler, their own No. 3 competitor. Mary Beth Tribble led Northview with a 37 to match up against a 38 from Sara Engle of the Braves.

Fuqua's score put South over the top in the match. The Braves came in with a team score of 169 to edge out the Knights 176 with North third at 201.

"We're still seeing a lot of improvement," said Trout of his team. "The sophomores especially. Mandy (Thomlinson) and Olivia (Oehler) had their best rounds and Mary Beth (Tribble) had a solid round too."

Sunny Shaw shot a 50 for the Knights with Savanah Pursell scoring a 56 and Carli Coughanowr adding a 67.

One of the biggest improvements came from Sarah Bunch who chopped double-digits off her last score to come in with a 55. Ali Rentschler shot a 61 with Shelby French adding a 65 and Allie Melega rounding out the Knights with a 75.

"We're building a foundation for next year," said Trout of his youthful squad. "These players are going to need to step up. We've got a very solid group of sophomores and juniors so we're very hopeful."

The Knights will host Cascade on Monday evening at 4:30 p.m.
