NASHVILLE -- North Clay's volleyball teams opened their season over the weekend by splitting matches against Owen Valley and Brown County.
The eighth grade team scored two wins on the road, getting a 25-6, 25-12 win against Owen Valley.
In that opening matchup, Breanna Cook had eight points and two aces with an assist for North Clay while Abby Hayes had seven points from the service line. Kylie McKee contributed three points with three aces and a kill in the victory and Alyssa Conrad contributed five points.
Emma Nicosin had two aces and Samantha Montague added one more. Both Ashlyn Buck and Kalyn Lucas had kills.
In the Knights' second game, North Clay won a 25-13, 19-25, 15-13 matchup against Brown County.
Buck had a big game in the win with 14 points, 10 via aces, to go with two kills and Taylor Yocom added five points. McKee added six points with four aces and Montague also had six points. Cook had two assists with Hayes adding three points. Lucas sent down three kills and both Kelsey Oehler and Clarissa Hatfield had a kill as well.
The eighth grade Knights (2-0 overall) will host South Putnam on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
The North Clay seventh grade dropped a pair of games in the WIC Round Robin Tourney on Saturday, falling 14-25, 15-25 to Owen Valley and 20-25, 25-20, 14-15 to Brown County.
Kyleigh Davis had 10 points with a pair of aces and Chandler Pell contributed 15 points with two aces for the Knights. Alexus Bex had 14 points, Sierra Girton had 10 points with two service aces and Sydney Purcell added seven points.
Samantha Okulovich scored six points, as did Billie McClain. Taylor Dickison added five points with Kasey Merten adding four.
The seventh grade team (0-2 overall) will also host the Eagles on Thursday.
