BREAKING NEWS: Deputy involved in head-on collision

Saturday, September 1, 2007

The Indiana State Police are investigating a head-on collision involving a Clay County Sheriff's Deputy, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday evening on State Road 46 in the area near the 6 Points Trading Post, 1005 N. County Road 750 E.

Due to the early stage of the investigation, officials are not releasing the names of the victims at this time.

Accident details are limited, but apparently a west-bound passenger car turned in front of a deputy's patrol car. The deputy was responding to a non-emergency call at the trading post at the time of the accident.

Accident victims were taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital by Trans-Care, but further details about their condition are unavailable at this time.

Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Finney is investigating the accident

Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton confirmed to The Brazil Times that it is normal protocol to release an accident investigation involving an officer of the department to the Indiana State Police.

Members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, Clay County Search and Rescue and Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

A complete version of this story will appear in Tuesday's edition of The Brazil Times.
