John Rudolph Deakins, 89, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin.
He was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Reelsville.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1918, in Staunton, to the late David Elmer and Winifred Fay (Davis) Deakins.
Survivors include daughter Margaret "Maggie" Light and husband Larry, Nineveh, Ind.; and son Max D. Deakins and wife Bea, Canon City, Colo.; five granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Grigsby, Brazil; and brothers David Deakins, Brazil, and Bob Deakins, Florida.
He was a graduate of Staunton High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II with the Pacific Theatre.
He was employed with the General Services Administration at the Indianapolis Federal Building, retiring in 1983.
He loved gardening and animals and was a friend to everyone.
A graveside service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at the Summit Lawn Cemetery, Brazil. Visitation is from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, Franklin, and also from 2-4 p.m. at Lawson-Miller Memorial Chapel, Brazil.
A military honor guard will be conducted at the graveside service.
