Starting on Jan. 1, 2009, all capital projects of more than $7 million will have to be approved by the County Board of Tax and Capital Project Review
According to Indiana Code 3-11-2-12.8, which became law on July 1, the new board will consist of two elected members and the county auditor.
Clay County Council President Mike McCullough said the board would review construction, infrastructure improvements and rehabilitation and renovation projects using county taxpayer monies.
The board could also review budgets, tax rates and levies for informational purposes and requests for the acquisition or improvement of machinery, equipment and/or furnishings for public facilities.
"We want to raise public awareness about this new board so that they can become more involved," McCullough said. "It would be nice to have people interested so that we can get candidates on the 2008 ballot."
Elected for a term of four years, board members would receive minimal daily compensation for the actual time they serve on the board.
