Good news was the theme of the evening during Wednesday's Brazil City Parks Board meeting.
Board President Ruthann Jeffries was happy to announce that this was a banner year for the Forest Park Pool.
"We had an exceptional year for the pool," Jeffries said.
"We did more than $30,000 worth of business, and 2007 is the best year we've had in a long time. I think with the hot, dry weather, we really got lucky."
A report from park superintendent Bill Houck, was also welcome news.
"We are getting ready to install the new playground equipment at Forest Park and Babe Wheeler Park," Houck said.
"On Saturday, Sept. 22, at 9 a.m., in Forest Park we will be gathering to dig the foundation area, laying pea gravel and assembling the equipment. If anyone wants to help, and we're going to need it, they can just show up at the park. If they have tools, that would be helpful also."
Houck also said he had fixed a plumbing problem at Wheeler Park, was buying a new toilet for Wheeler and replacing the backboards in the Wheeler Park basketball court.
New teeter-totters would soon be installed.
Forest Park will be receiving some minor cosmetic surgery soon, with the removal of several large tree stumps and dead trees.
The Christmas In The Park committee has separated from the Chamber of Commerce.
CIP has acquired the needed insurance, and the contract with the Park Board was signed.
The meeting ended with suggestions for additional seating in the center of the Leather's Playground (wooden playground) at Forest Park.
The board approved several benches to be placed inside the center to allow parents better viewing of their children as they play on the structure.
The next City Parks Board meeting will be on Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers.
The public is encouraged to attend.
