NASHVILLE -- The North Clay seventh grade football team improved to 4-1 on the season by defeating Brown County on Saturday, 18-6.
The Knights took the opening kickoff and put together a clock dominating, 75-yard drive that culminated in an eight-yard score by Phillip Lalen on a center trap. The two-point conversion failed and the Knights held a 6-0 lead.
The second quarter was a battle for field position as defense controlled the period. Neither team scored as North Clay led at the half.
North Clay kicked off to begin the second half and their defense locked up the Eagles led by linebackers Drake McKee and Larry Shaffer along with defensive tackles, Jesse Miller and Zack Williams.
Midway through the third period, the North Clay defense forced a punt on fourth and long. Shaffer received the kick, broke through a pair of defenders and raced along the right sideline for a 45-yard touchdown return and a 12-0 lead.
The final North Clay score of the game came in the fourth quarter as Trent Barnett and Lalen led the Knights' rushing attack into Brown County territory. Flanker Zach Rogers caught the Eagles napping on a 20-yard TD run around the end to push the lead to 18-0.
The Eagles scored the final TD of the game late in the contest to provide the final score.
