CLINTON -- The season got off to a bit of a slow start for the Northview girls soccer team but they seem to be peaking at just the right time.
On Thursday evening the Knights made the road trip to Clinton to face the South Vermillion Wildcats and came home with a convincing 10-2 victory.
In the process, Jenny Woodcox broke the single season goal-scoring mark for the Knights with her 17th of the season after tallying four versus the Wildcats. Woodcox also had an assist for the Knights who roared out to a 7-0 lead at halfitme and got their reserves plenty of playing time over the second half.
"I thought we played really well," commented coach Tony Alstott. "We had a good game and we're one win away from clinching a share of the conference championship."
The Knights are currently 4-1 in the WIC with their lone loss to Sullivan who was beaten by Edgewood earlier in the season. Northview still must face Owen Valley on Sept. 27.
The scoring was spread around amongst four Northview players on Thursday as Ashley Woodcox also had a hat trick with sophomore Carlee Bell adding two scores. Freshman Lindsay Woodcox also scored a goal in the victory.
Abby Birkey had two assists for Northview with Bell, Heather Foxx, Charlie Greichgauer, Jenny Woodcox and Ashley Woodcox all adding assists.
On defense, Cayla Yockey had two steals with Mallory Heffner, Bonnie Froderman and Ashley Clarke each getting one.
In net, Rachel Alstott had four saves and Christina Arvin adding one along with defender Tiffany Young.
Northview is now 7-4 overall and host Terre Haute South on Sept. 25.
