County athletes compete in college

The fall college sports season continued for county high school graduates.

Northview graduate Emily Pugh finished 47th for Indiana State at last weekend's Indiana Collegiates meet at Purdue University. She finished the 5K race in 19:22, less than one second behind teammate and Terre Haute South graduate Adriane Wunderlich.. Sycamore sophomore and former Terre Haute North standout, Kayla Alexander, placed fourth overall to lead the Sycamores to a fifth place finish as a team..

Pugh's former teammate with the Knights, James Grounds, a Vincennes sophomore, placed 134th in the men's race with a time of 28:27 in the 8K race.

Volleyball

Christy Fulk is a sophomore at the University of Indianapolis and has helped the Greyhounds to a 13-1 overall record and a ten match winning streak after their 11th sweep win of the year.

In a win against Kentucky Wesleyan over the weekend, Fulk played in one game.

For the season, Fulk has played in 21 games with 27 kills for an average of 1.29 kills per game.

Clay City graduate Ashley McCullough is a freshman member of the Indiana State Sycamores and has seen action in seven games this season and has averaged 0.57 kills over that span. She also has accumulated four blocks.

Brianne Arvin is a freshman at Stephens College in Columbia, MO. and is also a member of the volleyball team.

No statistics were available for the 2007 season.

Football

Jaime Bays, Matt Crooks, Devon Chamberlain and Dayne Upperman are all members of Marian College's inaugural football team.

Bays has played in each of the first two games, carrying the ball 13 times for 92 yards, good for an average of 6.4 ypc. He also has caught one pass for seven yards. Bays has returned five kickoffs for an average of 15.6 yards per return.

Crooks is a kicker for the Knights but has not seen action to this point while Chamberlain is listed as a wide receiver for Marian and Upperman is an offensive lineman.

Joe Evinger is a member of the College of the Canyons football program and has registered a solo tackle for the California Junior College power.

The 6'6, 300 pound lineman is a 2007 Northview graduate.

Soccer

2007 Northview graduate, Taylor Montague, is a freshman at Franklin College and a member of the Grizzlies soccer program.

Montague is a goalkeeper for Franklin but has not seen game action thus far.
