Online numbers for weekly poll don't add up

Monday, September 24, 2007

Based on a headcount, the numbers for The Brazil Times weekly poll were not entirely accurate this week.

More than 140 registered readers voted on the poll, which asked "Do you plan on attending any of the functions surrounding the K-Day Parade?"

Readers were given three responses to choose from with the poll, including:

* Yes, I can't wait for the parade,

* I have other plans for the weekend, but I might go, and

* No, I don't intend on attending the event.

Of the 145 readers that voted on the poll, 55.9 (81 votes) said they were not planning on attending the event.

However, pictures from the event clearly show that more than 150 people attended the K-Day Parade, which took place Saturday afternoon.

Of the votes on the Times' poll, 33.8 percent (49 votes) said they could not wait for the parade. In addition, 10.3 percent (15 votes) said they had other plans for the weekend, but may attend the parade.

Six comments were left regarding this week's poll question. One reader responded "A great tradition," while another stated "The parade was so much better back in the day that we had all the different high school bands in it. Now, if you've seen one parade, you've seen them all."

Still, another reader, who no longer lives in Clay County, responded with " I never missed it when I lived in Indiana. An annual event loved by all."

The current poll involves the Clay Community Schools proposed renovation project.

The school board has scheduled another informational meeting this week at North Clay Middle School. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m., Thursday.

This week, the Times is asking its readers if they plan on attending the Clay Community Schools public meeting Thursday at North Clay to voice their opinion on the corporation's renovation proposal.

There are three responses, including:

* I most certainly do intend to voice my opinion at the meeting,

* Yes, I will be going to the meeting, but I will not voice an opinion, and

* I don't think I'll be going to the meeting.
