Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, Dick Johnson Township Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a fully engulfed residential fire in an area near County Road 250 West and CR 1000 North. Animal pens located next to the home were also on fire and at least one vehicle located close to the home was in danger of catching fire.
After arrival, Dick Johnson command requested Posey and Van Buren Volunteer Fire Departments provide tanker assistance.
As firefighters on the scene rushed to get water on the flames, power lines, and what sounded like multiple rounds ammunition exploding, the firefighters were forced back. Another call went out requesting any available firefighters and emergency response personnel to provide assistance at the scene.
Neighbors at the scene claimed the family who lived at the residence was out of the home, but no verification has yet been given by officials.
With firefighters still on the scene, no injuries have been reported at this time.
More information will be available in Friday's edition of The Brazil Times.
