North Clay's eighth grade football team dropped their first game of season, 14-6, to Edgewood recently, but rebounded on Tuesday by defeating West Vigo in a game that was called due to weather late in the first half.
Against the Mustangs, Damon Hyatt scored the lone touchdown for the Knights on an 11-yard run. He also put together a strong defensive effort in the loss.
Chance Talbot had 10 tackles, including an important sack late in the game. Bryant Pestoff, Tyler Wilson, Jordan Girton and Krieg Wallen all had big games on the defensive side of the ball.
Kodie Girton had four big runs to get the Knights within scoring position late in the game but time eventually ran out.
Against the Vikings, the game was called with five minutes left in the first half.
Girton found Brock Wheeler for a 40-yard pass play before scoring from eight yards out. Girton then found Wheeler for the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.
The Vikings would later tie the score but North Clay's defense stepped up to deny the conversion attempt which proved to be the game-winner.
Hyatt and Chance Talbot both ran the ball hard and led the team on the defensive side. Jordan Lovett, Baylor Girton, Wilson and Aaron See all played strong for the defense.
The eighth grade is now 6-1 going into Wednesday's game against Sullivan.
