He was born May 3, 1918, in Brazil, to David Jr. and Margaret "Maggie" Gross Davis.
He was the owner and operator of Davis Grocery Store in Brazil and the Highway Market in East Glen.
He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church for 85 years, having also been a member of the United Methodist Men's Brotherhood, where he enjoyed cooking beans at Forest Park every Fourth of July, and was very active in the African Christian Mission collecting and sending many classroom supplies and helping build a school and library in Sierra Leone through "Operation Classroom."
He was also a 1936 graduate of Brazil High School, a World War II veteran as a Sgt. in the Army Air Force, a Boy Scout Master for Troop No. 49 at Epworth Church, the troop he started in 1953.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Stearley, and a sister-in-law, Margaret Motley.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Davis; two sons, Frank Davis and wife Rebecca, Zionsville, and Donald R. Davis, Sullivan; daughter Deborah Stearley and husband Jack, Brazil; seven grandchildren, Heather Sheehan, Myra Priser, Sara Davis-Whitcomb, Michael Davis, Melissa Davis and Jana Stearley; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Jane Harrington, Detroit, and Dixie Shorter, Brazil; brother-in-law LaVon Motley, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at French Funeral Home with visitation from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at St. Johns Cemetery.
