Gerald D. "Dale" Heiliger, 81, Franklin, formerly of Brazil, died Oct. 3, 2007, at Indiana Masonic Home, Franklin.
Born June 4, 1926, in Brazil, he was the son of James F. and Ona E. (Thomas) Heiliger.
He married Betty Jo Raybould on March 26, 1946, in Brazil.
He graduated from Van Buren High School and served in the United States Air Force during World War II.
He was a truck driver for Spector Freight in Milwaukee for 33 years before retiring in 1977. He then worked for St. Luke Hospital in housekeeping and security for 12 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Knightsville F&AM No. 409, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He enjoyed building clocks, the outdoors and his cars. He also was an upholstery and rug cleaner.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Heiliger; sons James Joseph Heiliger and wife Stephanie Ann, Indianapolis, and Christopher John Heiliger and wife Terry, Burnsville, Minn.; daughter Pamela Sue Ward and husband Thomas J., Racine, Wis.; sister Barbara J. Hammond, Brazil; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Ona E. Heiliger, and sisters Betty J. Heiliger and Joyce A. Warner.
Services will take place at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Runsford Chapel at the Indiana Masonic Home, with a Masonic Service at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. Charles Stanley officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Brazil, at 2:30 p.m. Visitation is 9:30-11:30 a.m., Saturday at the Ransford Chapel at the Indiana Masonic Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Masonic Home and the American Diabetes Association. Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge of handling arrangements.
