Emergency response personnel from around the county mounted a search effort in rural Clay County for six individuals in the area of the Chinook Coal Mine late Friday evening.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m., mine security personnel contacted dispatchers at the Clay County Justice Center about the missing people.
Members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department, including the K-9 Unit, Cory and Posey Volunteer Fire Departments, Clay County Search and Rescue and the Clay County Sheriff's Posse were dispatched to an area near Lower Bloomington Road and County Road 500 West to look for the unidentified individuals who apparently got lost during a fishing trip.
With the vast size of the mine area extending into Vigo County, the Vigo County Sheriff's Department was also notified about the search in case the missing individuals wandered into their county.
According to officials, thermal imaging cameras are being used on the scene to locate the individuals.
