Area students get set for bus safety week

Tuesday, October 9, 2007

School Bus Safety week is here for Clay Community Schools, and the transportation department is asking students to "Be Cool -- Follow the Rules."

Every elementary school child will watch a video called "Be Cool -- Follow the Rules" in which a queen and her jester ride the school bus and students teach the queen the rules of the bus.

The school corporation has 10 rules for students to safely ride the buses, including never run to or from the bus and always obey the driver.

Students will also practice a bus evacuation.

The corporation has 75 buses and 57 full-time routes.

Frank Misner, the Director of Transportation, said the buses cover more than 3,500 miles a day just on their normal routes.

"School buses are the safest way to get to and from school," said Misner.
