He was born July 20, 1932, in West Terre Haute, the son of the late Charles and the late Vichel Viola (Blair) Darkis. In 1956, in Burnett, he was married to Patricia Ruth Carlin, who survives him. For 47 years he was employed by Townsend Tree Service. He trimmed trees for Public Service.
He was formerly a member of the Burnett Non-Denominational Church and the NCHA, on the Board of Directors for Farm Bureau, a Burnett Volunteer Firefighter, a Boy Scout Leader, a 4-H Leader and Superintendent of Rabbits, and played Santa Claus for the United Cerebral Palsy Association. ?In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Charlie, Leland and Harry Darkis.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Ruth (Carlin) Darkis, four daughters: Brenda (husband Steve) Courter, Sullivan, Rhonda (husband Charles) Cecil, Tennessee, Diana Jamison, Linton, Tina (husband Kenny) Michael, Brazil, and four sons: Delbert A. (wife Mary) Darkis, Brazil, Ernest (wife Pam) Darkis, Terre Haute, Ronald (wife Jamie) Darkis, Terre Haute, Kenneth Darkis, Brazil, 17 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Ethel Zink and Linda (husband Perry) Divley all of Farmersburg, two brothers: Gary Darkis, Farmersburg and Herman (wife Lelia) Darkis, Hammond and many other extended family members also survive him. ?Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Moore Funeral Home, Brazil, with Pastor Jerry Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Burnett Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, 6- 8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home.
