Tri Kappa Associate

The Beta Chapter of the Brazil Associates of Tri Kappa met Monday evening, Oct. 1, 2007, at the First Methodist Church; after a delicious dinner served by the Ladies of the First Methodist Church.

President Susie Freeman opened the meeting and introduced two guests, Kathy Witham and Sandy Swindle. Janet Love led the group with the Tri Kappa Song. Marsha Wyndham took roll call with all in attendance answering Kappa. Following roll call, Marsha read the minutes from the September meeting. The minutes were approved after being amended in regards to the treasurer's balance.

Members were reminded to let Sandy Henderson know of any illnesses or deaths so that she can send cards as needed. Marsha Wyndham gave a report of the province meeting that she went to representing our chapter. Among the things discussed at this meeting were needs of the Ronald McDonald House and the new format for Cross Keys. She also said that there is a search on for the Province Kindness Key which has been missing for a year or so.

President Freeman discussed the Cross Keys magazine especially the article by Jane Mercer also the article about Jane Mercer written by Dorothy Snell. Kim bills presented to be paid. Under unfinished business, the chapter was reminded that we are still accepting donations for the Humane Shelter, plastic containers for the Senior Center and pop-can pull tabs for Eastside School.

Vickie Switzer passed a correction sheet for addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. She will have any corrections available at the next meeting for our membership book.

Kathy Witham and Sandy Swindle, our guest for the evening, decided that they would like to join our chapter and paid their dues. Ellen Packard requested a donation of a scholarship chairman, moved that we approve of this donation and Margie Cauldwell seconded the motion.

Dorothy Snell asked the chapter to recognize Shirley Witt for her appointment as Grand Representative to the State of Vermont in Eastern Star. This is quite an honor for Shirley, and the chapter is proud of her for this recognition.

The next meeting will be on Nov. 5, at which time the recipe for the pumpkin dessert will be given to those who desire it. After adjournment, the chapter enjoyed the humorous program presented by Dorothy Snell. Dorothy recited several of her original poems among which were two especially moving recitations. One about her good friend, Jane Mercer, and the other was a tribute to her sister, Kay, that was sent to her on what was to be her final birthday. Because of the emotional content of this piece, it was read by Shirley Witt.

The door prizes, two beautiful mums, were won by Shirley Witt and Jacque Reberger.
