George W. Minkler, 88, Greencastle, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007.
Born Feb. 27, 1919, in Coxsakie, N.Y., he was the son of Lester and Pearl Harris Minkler.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and earned a battle star in France and Germany.
He was a graduate of Cornwall on Hudson High School and Purdue University, a charter member of the Poland Volunteer Fire Dept., served as a trustee and moderator at Big Walnut Baptist Church and retired from farming after 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Marjorie Kay Minkler, brother Robert Minkler, and sister Dorothy Fredrickson.
Survivors include his wife, Freda E. Minkler, whom he married on June 9, 1973; son, Robert Minkler, Mobile, Ala., stepson, Gerald W. Nelson and wife Bev, Greencastle; stepdaughters Carolyne Sharp and husband Gerald "Bud" Sharp, Greencastle, Sharon Dunn and husband Rex, Greencastle, and Diane Osborne and husband Gary, Crystal River, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Mike Goss officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
