There are several holidays that many Americans observe throughout the calendar year.
For some, many people have the opportunity to take a day off. For other holidays, people are still trolling the highways heading to work.
Halloween is one of those holidays.
The day, Oct. 31, is observed in celebration of All Hallow's Eve. It generally includes decorations, scary movies, and lots of candy for the children who spend the evening trick-or-treating.
The Brazil Times recently asked its readers what their favorite part of Halloween is on its website.
The poll question drew 133 responses from readers.
There were six answers to choose from in the poll, including:
* The costumes,
* The candy,
* Scary movies,
* Haunted houses, and
* The decorations.
Of the responses, readers favored decorations the most as 28.6 percent (38 votes) led the way.
A total of 18.8 percent (25 votes) said candy was their favorite part of the holiday while 18 percent (24 votes) favored scary movies.
Twenty-one voters (15.8 percent) said the costumes were their favorite part of the holiday while 12.8 percent (17 readers) said haunted houses. In addition, 6 percent (eight votes) favored trick-or-treating.
Two readers also commented on the poll questions.
One reader said, "I love watching my young children, almost 4 and 18 months, show off their costumes and wait eagerly for their treats. It's always a memorable moment."
Another reader said, "My son loves that we have the yard all decorated for the kids who come 'trick-or-treating.'"
The current poll question on The Brazil Times' website asks readers if the increased traffic through the area due to the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival affects their daily routine.
