The sherriff's department is investigating a shooting at Van Buren Elementary School today.
One custodian was injured from glass after a bullet shattered through the building Thursday afternoon.
The custodian, whose name was not released, was taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital. No more information was available.
At approximately 12:45 p.m., a single gun shot went through a window just to the left side of the cafeteria. The bullet has been reported to be a large caliber.
Van Buren, along with all other schools in the Clay Community School Corporation, have been placed on lockdown for safety and security purposes.
Staff members were able to identify the vehicle as a newer moder, full-size, shiny black van with no side windows, which was seen heading north. Staff also said two white males were in the vehicle.
Multiple police agencies have responded to the scene and blocked off a portion of County Road 200 East.
Parents may pick up their children before the normal release time, which will go on as scheduled. They may also call directly to the school with concerns at 448-1362.
The Clay Community School Corporation has also stated that school will go on as scheduled tomorrow.
