Jack W. Torbert, 87, went to heaven, Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, from his residence in Brazil.
He was born March 21, 1920, in Terre Haute.
He was a graduate of Gerstymeyer High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II and Navy Reserves.
He worked many years for Froderman Chevrolet, Giffel Body Mfg. Co., Swingley Chevrolet and Sycamore Chevrolet, retireing in 1984 from Chevrolet.
He worked at the Chevrolet dealership in Rockville and dealership in Greencastle and Bowen Oldsmobile in Terre Haute.
He went on his walk to Emmaus on Feb. 22-25, 2001, Walk No. 78. He was a volunteer at Union Hospital for a short time, a greeter at the Brazil Wal-Mart.
He liked working and being around people.
He was a member of the Carbon Baptist Church.
He left behind his wife Judy, Brazil, three daughters, Celeste Taylor and husband Tim, Oscoda Mich., Jacque Thode and husband Lee, Michigan City, Ind., and Robin Dailey and husband Roger, Brazil; and son Roger Torbert and wife Shelley, Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Ross Taylor and wife Christy, Martin, Ga., Kim Richards and husband Eric, Oscoda, Mich., Ryan Dailey, St. Louis, Robert Dailey and wife Jolene, Terre Haute, Hope Torbert, Ashton Guess, Abby Guess and Hunter Torbert, Terre Haute; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Taylor and Emma Taylor, both of Georgia, and McKenzie and Lauren Richards, Oscoda, Mich.

Services will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at French Funeral Home with visitation from 4 p.m. until time of services.
