Mae E. Cooksey, 87, Carbon, passed away Oct. 19, 2007, at 6:50 p.m. in her son’s home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Clay County, the daughter of Roy and Nellie Sutherland. She was married to Leonard Cooksey, he preceded her in death. She was later married to Roy Cooksey; he also preceded her in death in 1980.

She worked as a waitress at Metz’s Bar and Restaurant in Brazil for several years. She also worked for the Clay Community School Corporation as a cook. She had also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Wilson Nursing Home and at Macanell Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Brazil Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge. She loved her pets, including dogs and her inside and outside bird friends. She also enjoyed her flowers and playing Bingo. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She cherished her time she spent with family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Margaret Grigsby, Linda June Taylor, Mary Wyatt, all of Clay County, Gary Cooksey and wife Rose of Fort Wayne, Roy Cooksey, Harry Cooksey and wife Pam, Virgil Cooksey and wife Brenda, Cletus Cooksey and wife Beth all of Clay County; one brother Ralph Sutherland Sr., Center Point; one sister Lydia Opal Mitchell of Mesa, Ariz.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy Cooksey; one son Arlie Cooksey, and two sisters Imogene Yards and Magdalene Sutherland, and one brother William Sutherland.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home, with Pastor Fred Bault officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
