â€¢ Mr. Murphy's, 16 East National Ave., will be holding a Halloween Costume Contest and Party Saturday at 7 p.m. Local officials will judge the contest, which has three categories (Scariest, Originality, Funniest) and two age groups (ages 13-17 and ages 18 and up). Adult supervision will be present while older spooks and goblins enjoy games, music and participate in the THRILLER DANCE. Admission is free, but there is a minimal cost for refreshments. â€¢ Visitors to a Night at the Manor in Center Point, can learn about a house that allegedly was used as a home and prison for the "mentally troubled" in its earlier days. But some "strange energies" are turning it back into something more terrifying than it ever was to benefit the Christmas in the Park.
The admission is $8 per person, $7 with a valid student ID. The manor is open for visitors on Thursday (today) at 6-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 6-11 p.m. and Monday-Wednesday during 6-10 p.m.
Monday is Family Night, which allows visitors to enter the manor for a special price of $6 per person.
Spooky Haunted Hayrides are available for young girls and boys at $5 per person.
Food and treats, courtesy of the Market Cafe', are available during open hours.
South on State Road 59, turn left (east) at the first road south of SR 46 (County Road 100 South) and travel 4.5 miles, following the signs, to the manor.
"ManorCast" is a website that provides visitors a chance to view never before seen footage of the investigation into the history of these grounds.

â€¢ The Poland Volunteer Fire Department has scheduled a haunted barn event for Friday and Saturday from 7-11 p.m.
Admission is $7 to enter the barn or $5 for a hayride. In addition, those interested may pay $10 to participate in both.
The fire department will serve chili and drinks and will have candy for children.
The department will also donate $1 off the admission price to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

â€¢ Lieber State Recreation Area has scheduled a Haunted Hayride for Saturday.
The hayride will begin at 7 p.m. and conclude at 10 p.m., and officials note that small children should be accompanied by adults.
Cost is $2 per person the event will be canceled in the case of inclement weather.

â€¢ The YMCA of Clay County will be decorated, waiting and well-supervised for children who wish to attend its "Halloween at the YMCA," from 6-8 p.m., Saturday.
The YMCA has hosted a variety of organized Halloween activities, including games, crafts and costume contests, for several years.

â€¢ The Brazil City Mayor's Office will offer a Safe Child Day for children and their families from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Brazil City Fire Department.
Children may come to the event dressed as their favorite Halloween characters and receive treats. They will be able to talk to police officers and firefighters about proper safety issues.

â€¢ The Trunk and Treat Halloween alternative will take place from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Forest Park "cow palace." The event is free for all families.
