Two injured in early morning accident

Shortly before 8 a.m., Tuesday, two people were injured during an apparent head-on collision on US 40 in front of the Brazilian Lanes bowling alley.
Two people sustained injuries and were sent to two separate hospitals following an early-morning accident on United States 40 shortly before 8 a.m., Tuesday.

Around 7:42 a.m., a caller advised 911 dispatchers at the Clay County Justice Center a Chevrolet vehicle was apparently traveling east in the westbound lane of US 40.

According to dispatchers, two minutes later another caller reported an accident in front of the Brazilian Lanes bowling alley.

Clay County Sheriff's deputies and Brazil City patrolmen located a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix and a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier with heavy front-end damage in the median area.

Members of the Brazil City and Posey Township Volunteer fire departments worked to remove the driver of the Cavalier, an elderly woman, trapped inside the vehicle. AirEvac transported her to Wishard Hospital, Indianapolis.

Complaining of leg pains, the driver of the Grand Prix was transported to Union Hospital, Terre Haute, by TransCare for further medical treatment.

The names of the drivers are being withheld until officials can notify their families
