Man taken to hospital following I-70 accident

Thursday, November 8, 2007

Interstate traffic was shut down for approximately an hour after a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Interstate 70 and State Road 59, sending one man to an Indianapolis hospital.

According to an accident report provided by the Indiana State Police, shortly after noon Wednesday, Basil Masterson, 76, Mitchell, Ind., failed to stop at a stoplight near the Interstate 70 eastbound on-ramp and struck a vehicle driven by Gary Frederickson, 38, Saginaw, Mich.

Members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department controlled traffic while emergency response personnel from Jackson and Posey Township Volunteer Fire Departments and Clay County Search and Rescue helped remove Masterson who was trapped inside his vehicle.

Masterson was taken to Wishard Hospital by a Life Line ambulance for undisclosed injuries.
