Several county schools to honor veterans

Thursday, November 8, 2007

With Veteran's Day falling on Sunday, recognition programs at Clay Community Schools will bookend the weekend.

Students and faculty at Jackson Township Elementary School will recognize Armed Forces vets with a pitch-in lunch and program today.

Principal Jeff Fritz said Thursday that 88 veterans were signed up, including his father.

The Jackson Township Student Council is putting on the program, which will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the gym.

Visitors should park behind the gym and enter through gym doors.

On Monday, Clay City Elementary School is having a special guest speak to the students and veterans.

Col. Marjorie K. Courtney, who served with Principal Jon Russell in Iraq, will join the students and faculty in honoring those who have served.

Veterans and their families can enjoy coffee, rolls and other breakfast items in the teacher's lounge at 8:15 a.m.

The program will begin at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium.

Also on Monday, Van Buren Elementary School will have a recognition program in their gym at 1 p.m.

Cookies and punch will be served afterwards.

At North Clay Middle School, a Veteran's Day program will be open to the public.

The program will be in the gymnasium, and lunch will be available to those who are being honored.

Guests should park in the back of the building, and the ambassadors from North Clay will bring guests in through doors five or six.
