Ruth M. Phillips, 80, Brazil, passed away early Tuesday morning at the Clay County Healthcare Nursing Home.

Born May 25, 1927, in Herington, Kan., she was the daughter of Harold Rider Cress and Ninetta Marie (Neusbaum).

She was a homemaker. She loved crafts, painting, playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her husband Lewis Phillips, whom she married on June 21, 1947; seven children, Chris Whitmore, Phoenix, Michelle Hart and husband Steve, Kansas, Lewis Phillips and wife Peg, Texas, Hal Phillips and wife Liz, Illinois, Kenny Phillips, Worthington, Brian Phillips and his wife Lorrie, and Mark Phillips and his wife Ruth, all of Brazil; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a special sister-in-law, Helen Chezem, and several siblings.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Deborah Schlegel.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Friday (today) at Roselawn Funeral Home, Terre Haute. Services will be a noon with Rev. Larry Spear officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
