Westbound traffic on United States 40 was brought to a standstill Friday after a three-vehicle accident.
A multiple vehicle accident near the intersection of Tower Road and United States 40 brought traffic to a standstill for almost an hour Friday evening.

Shortly after 6 p.m., numerous phone calls came into the 911 dispatch center at the Clay County Justice Center about an accident involving four cars.

When members of the Clay County Sheriff's, Brazil City Police and Carbon Town Police departments and the Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene they discovered three vehicles were involved in the accident.

According to information provided by Sgt. Dan Best at the scene, a 15-year-old juvenile driver with a learner's permit was attempting to turn west onto U.S. 40 as another vehicle was turning south on Tower Road and struck an SUV in the eastbound passing lane, pushing it into another vehicle in the westbound lane of traffic.

One person was transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital by TransCare ambulance for undetermined injuries, but no other injuries were reported.

Names of the individuals involved in the accident and further information were not available due to the on-scene investigation.
