4-H News

Monday, November 12, 2007

There is a lot of activity going on at the Clay County Extension Office in the months of November and December and everyone is invited to join in the fun. You don't have to belong to 4-H to participate in these activities; we welcome one and all from 9 to 90!!

On Monday, Nov. 26, we are looking for people to help ring bells for the Salvation Army from 4-8 p.m. This is a lot of fun and helps a good cause. Not everyone is as blessed as we are and it does a heart good to help someone out.

Wednesday, Nov. 28 will find us in the basement of the Extension Office conducting a scrapbook crop; what a great time for you to get started on a scrapbook to give as a Christmas gift. We will have some quick make-it-and-take-it ideas for Christmas for you to work on. The time is 5-9 p.m. This class is filling up fast and our space is limited so be sure you call 448-9041 to reserve your spot. If we have a large overflow, we will try to have a second crop so we can accommodate everyone.

Dec. 10 is the day we will be making fresh evergreen wreaths from 4-8 p.m. at the Extension Office. The cost is $4 to cover the metal form and greenery; you bring your own ribbon and trims. Class size is limited so please call 448-9041 to reserve your space. There is nothing like the smell of fresh evergreens to get you in the holiday spirit!!

The Clay County 4-H Junior Leaders, who are the most fantastic young people you will ever meet, will be ringing the bells for Salvation Army again on Dec. 12 from 4-8 p.m. and I am sure they would welcome anyone who would like to help.

What says Christmas more than cookies? Join us on Thursday, Dec. 20 from 6-8 p.m. at the Extension Office and you will go home with freshly baked and decorated Christmas cookies. For $5, you will receive one dozen cookies to decorate any way you wish and a recipe book. All of the supplies are provided. This class is filling up FAST, so don't delay. Call 448-9041 and reserve a spot. We may have a second class if we need to.

After the fun of your Christmas presents has worn off and you are ready to do something else, stop by the Extension Office on Thursday, Dec. 27 from 9 a.m.-noon to make birdfeeders and take a bird watching excursion. For $2, you will go home with a birdfeeder you made and a bird observation log. Anyone who completes an observation log will be entered for some really cool door prizes.

I sure hope you will join us for some or all of these activities. Remember, call the office at 448-9041 to reserve a space in the classes. See you soon!
