Details are limited at this time due to the on-scene investigation, but The Brazil Times has learned that officials are trying to determine whether the people involved in a single vehicle traffic accident Saturday morning in Putnam County were from Clay County.
Shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, the Clay County Sheriff's Department was requested to provide assistance to Indiana State Police troopers who were following a vehicle traveling westbound on United States 40 at a high rate of speed into Clay County. But, before local officers were able to reach the scene, the vehicle turned south on County Road 500 East, left the road and crashed into a tree on the Putnam County side of the Clay/Putnam county line.
The number of occupants in the vehicle and their condition is unknown at this time
The Putnamville Post of the Indiana State Police is investigating the accident.
The Brazil Times will provide updates about this story as they become available.
