Basil Joseph Masterson Jr., 76, Plainfield, formerly of Cloverdale and Mitchell, Ind., died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, in the Yellow Rose Unit of Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born Oct. 10, 1931, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Basil Joseph Masterson Sr. and Retta (Dean) Masterson.
He graduated from Decatur Central High School and attended Purdue University. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He worked for Indiana Bell Telephone for 37 years, retiring in 1989.
He is survived by wife Carol Selsam Masterson, Center Point; daughter Susan Griffin, McCordsville; son Howard Masterson, Cloverdale; brother Robert Masterson, Spencer; sister Ellen Reynolds, Mooresville; stepchildren from a previous marriage Jennifer Spiegel, London, England, Julia Sears, Mitchell, Ind., Janet Conners, Syracuse, N.Y., Phillip Spiegel, Vincennes, Jane Cohen, Poland, and David Spiegel, Elk Grove, Ill.; stepchildren Marilyn Sheetz, Bayminette, Ala., Carolyn Suniga, Bloomfield, and Julia Diebert, Bloomington, Ind.; 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Janet (Hoyt) Masterson; and siblings James Masterson, Martha Griffith, David Masterson and Mary Clayton.
Memorial services took place on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, near Cloverdale.
