Joshua L. Batchelor, W. Church St., Brazil, recently enlisted in the U.S. Army's Delayed Entry Program, and will report for active duty June 10, 2008.

The Northview High School senior is scheduled to take basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., and advanced individual training at Fort Bliss, Texas. He has chosen the position of air and missile defense crewmember as his military occupation, and has volunteered to serve a three-year tour of duty.

Sgt. Gary Rice of the Army's Terre Haute recruiting station assisted him in his enlistment.


Army Pvt. Donald A. Stuart has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Stuart is the son of Jane Shields of Southgate Drive, Brazil, Ind.
