Ronald James Hoopingarner, 76, Brazil, died at 8:46 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, in the emergency room at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

He was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Brazil, the son of Harold and Donita Summers Hoopingarner. He graduated from Brazil High School with the Class of 1949 and began a career as a tool and die maker, working at area companies including IBM, Standard Die, Ideal Engineering and Hancor. He married Jeannine Ewing in Greencastle on Aug. 25, 1950.

Ronald was a man of random acts of kindness, always ready to help others. He was devoted to animals and he loved his birds, squirrels and all of nature. He loved his dogs for many years and most recently, his cat. He and his wife Jeannine spent many years traveling on their motorcycle visiting many different areas of the U.S. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and family man. He was also an avid golfer and loved playing the game with his many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Helen Ewing, father-in-law Henry Ewing, brother-in-law Charles Ewing, grandfather James Summers and grandparents, Perry and Lucy Hoopingarner.

He is survived by his wife Jeannine, two sons, Steve Hoopingarner, Greencastle and Bruce Hoopingarner and his wife Annette, Brazil, two daughters, Rhonda Louderback and husband Rick and Ann Hoopingarner, all of Brazil, grandchildren, Carrie Ann Jones, Andrew, Eric and Hayley Hoopingarner, one sister, Patricia Ewing, Greencastle, one brother, Harold Hoopingarner and wife Marion, Indianapolis, sisters-in-law, Joyce Leer and husband Larry and Cheryl Salsman and husband Gary and many extended family members.

Moore Funeral Home was chosen to provide cremation services. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m., at Calcutta Cemetery.
