Northview freshmen basketball fans went away happy on Wednesday night as both the boys and girls' teams scored wins over visiting West Vigo.
The boys' team withstood a barrage of 3- pointers by the Vikings in the third quarter and used a six-point run to start the fourth quarter to score a 44-37 victory.
The girls' team meanwhile, took control with their defense, holding the Vikings scoreless in the first and third quarters to win 39-13.
Sean Hauser knocked down three, 3-pointers in the second quarter to propel the Knights to a 20-19 lead at halftime. Hauser's perimeter barrage helped offset foul trouble by post threat Jordan Van Horn, who saw minimal time in the first half.
Aaron Baker scored six first half points for the Vikings and Cole Lydick knocked down a 3-pointer to get the Vikings within a point at the break.
Hunter Robertson nailed a 3-pointer in the first quarter and got to the line for three free throws in the second quarter for the Knights.
Opening the second half, Jordan King scored in the paint for Northview and Hauser drove to the basket to push the lead to 24-19. Robertson then knocked home his second 3-pointer to cap a 7-0 run to give the Knights a 27-19 lead.
Seemingly gaining control of the game, the Knights then saw West Vigo hit a trio of 3-pointers to end the quarter.
Dylan Aff hit the first followed by trifectas from Lydick and Baker to get the Vikings within 29-18 heading to the fourth quarter.
The Knights jumped out to a 37-29 lead on a rebound and putback by Van Horn with less than two minutes remaining, but the Vikings strung together an 8-2 run to get back to 39-37 with 1:09 left.
Justin Rodgers snapped the string for the Knights and Robertson finished off a 17-point night with a hoop followed by a free throw by Rodgers to finish the win.
Hauser added 14 points and six rebounds and King added five boards.
In the girls' game, Darcy Bass and Jenny Gabriel led the first quarter charge to take a 13-0 lead after the first six minutes.
With five new players starting the second quarter, Jonica Johnson got into the post for all six Northview points and two rebounds.
Leading 19-6 at halftime, Northview didn't let up to start the third quarter as Raven Enders knocked down a jumper and then hit from the baseline to give Northview a 23-6 lead.
Rissa Berg scored off another assist from Bass to open the fourth quarter before West Vigo scored their first second half basket.
Johnson followed with her ninth point, Berg scored in the paint and Bass got a rebound basket as Northview capped a 9-4 run and the win.
Bass, Johnson and Gabriel all had five rebounds with Johnson leading the team with nine points. Gabriel was next with eight and both Bass and Enders had seven points.
The Northview girls will travel to Terre Haute South on Monday for a 6 p.m. game while the boys' take on Terre Haute North at home on Monday beginning at 6 p.m.
Junior varsity basketball
The Northview junior varsity put up a valiant effort against Bloomington North Tuesday night, but ultimately fell short, 35-28.
Lauren Webster and Emily Phillips lead the Knights' effort with seven points apiece, including a 3-pointer apiece.
Chelsey Sampson contributed six points in the game with Carlee Bell chipping in four points and both Kelsey Searing and Shelby Colson added two.
The Knights will play on Saturday at 2 p.m.
