INDIANAPOLIS -- U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar recently announced that area high school students have been selected to attend his "Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders" at the University of Indianapolis on Dec. 8.
Clay City High School students Courtney Rundel and Orry Heffner, along with Northview High School students Matt Nodley and Hannah Van Horn have been selected to attend the event.
Every public and private high school in the state has been invited to select two juniors to attend the all-day conference.
Last year, more than 400 students, representing high schools in nearly all of the 92 Indiana counties attended the event.
Lugar will open the day-long program again this year with an address to the students on national and world affairs.
The students will then participate in a choice of 10 discussion groups.
Some of this year's topics include energy security, Iraq, media responsibility and U.S. leadership around the world. Students debate opposing views under the leadership of major state and national advocates on the subjects.
Students have been encouraged to donate canned food items that will be collected at registration and then donated to Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis.
