Although details are limited because of the preliminary investigation, the Clay County Sheriff's Department confirmed the arrests of two Brazil residents and one person from Indianapolis alleged to be involved in recent area burglaries.
Early Monday morning, Deputies James Switzer and Brison Swearingen responded to a burglary in progress at an undisclosed Clay County residence. The property owner was able to provide officials with details about the suspects, a description of the getaway vehicle, a white SUV, and the license plate.
The information led to a subsequent traffic stop of the vehicle and the questioning and arrest of three suspects.
Officers arrested and booked Andrew J. Knight, 21, Indianapolis, Tina M. Knight, 44, and Stephen C. Hamman, 19, both from Brazil.
Hamman was arrested on a preliminary burglary charge while Andrew J. Knight and Tina M. Knight were arrested on several preliminary theft charges, including burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of stolen property, theft and trespass of real property.
All three are awaiting arraignment at the Clay County Justice Center.
Officials said they are expecting to be able to release more information about the investigation and the potential of more arrests on Tuesday.
