Ronald Lester Metz, 73, formerly of Brazil, passed away in Corona, Calif., on Sunday, Nov. 25,2007.

Born July 17, 1934, in Brazil, he was the son of Lester "Shorty" Metz and Helen McCullough Metz.

He graduated from Brazil High School in 1952, where he played basketball and baseball.

He attended Indiana State University, Terre Haute, majoring in business.

He played college baseball and graduated in 1956 with a BS degree in Retailing and Education.

He spent a brief time with J.C. Penny, Co., as a manager trainee.

He was drafted into the Army and served from1957-59. After his discharge, he became an agent for Western and Southern Insurance, Terre Haute, and in 1965, advanced to a management position, moving to Orange County, Calif., where he opened an office in San Bernardino.

He retired from Western and Southern in 1989 after 30 years of service.

Ron was a sports enthusiast, and an avid and accomplished golfer, bowler and all-around athlete. He was an active member of the Green River Seniors and worked for Green River Golf Course as a Ranger and Starter for several years.

He is survived by four children, Rhonda White, Debbie Bees, Claudine Duke and Jeff Metz; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren with two more expected; two brothers, Jack Metz, Fort Meyers Beach, Fla., and Richard Metz, Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Patricia.

Funeral services were conducted Nov. 29, 2007, in Corona, Calif.
