Time Staff report

BLOOMINGTON -- The Northview Knights crowned a pair of champions at the Bo Henry Classic at Bloomington North High School on Saturday on the way to a best-ever runnerup finish as a team.

The Knights placed nine of their 14 competitors in the top-three overall as Northview finished behind only Castle in the tourney.

Luke Pingleton and Chris Craft both went 3-0 on the day and won championships as Northview scored 216 team points to place behind Castle's 263.5. Mooresville was third with 206 points, Bloomington North was fourth, Martinsville fifth and Heritage sixth. Terre Haute North was unable to compete.

At 112 pounds, Luke Pingleton advanced to the title bout where he was able to take a 9-2 decision against the Cougars' Alex Wasley and win the championship.

Chris Craft returned at 119 pounds in the Knights' most recent bout against Edgewood to receive a forfeit victory and, in his first regular matches of the season, also won all three matches, scoring a fall over Princeton's Caleb Smith in the final. Craft pinned Smith, the 15th-ranked wrestler at 119 according to the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches' Association, in just 1:45 for the championship.

Freshman Brandon Mikesell, at 125 pounds, was the runnerup for Northview, dropping his final match against Alex Welch of Castle. Zach Stultz also earned a second place finish, going 2-1 overall at 145 pounds. Stultz would drop a 4-1 decision to Preston Richard of Castle in the finals.

Third place finishes went to Skyler Hall at 103 pounds, Brandon Hathaway at 135, Caleb Dutrow at 152, Tom Herr-Smith at 160 and Tommy Holifield at 189.

Beau Pingleton was forced to default his final match due to illness or the Knights' finish might have been even better. Pingleton finished at 3-1 on the day and beat Bloomington North's Ethan Oppenlander 15-4 to qualify for the finals before the default left him in fourth place.

Herr-Smith scored the decision over Bloomington North's Garrett Goldman, 3-2, to place third for the Knights.

Senior Jared Staley was fourth for Northview along with Kyle McCoy.

The Knights will compete next at the Mooresville Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28 and 29th.
