TERRE HAUTE -- The Vigo County School Corporation and Joe's Hobby Barn will host the first Terre Haute Indoor Air Fair, benefiting the United Way of the Wabash Valley.
Terre Haute South High School will open its main gymnasium for remote control airplane, helicopter and airship enthusiasts between 6-9 p.m., Thursday.
Any RC Pilot who has an electric powered remote control aircraft will be able to participate, and all skill levels will be exhibited. Air obstacles will be set up for the more advanced pilots. Spectators may sit in the bleachers and watch the demonstrations off the aircrafts.
A paper airplane contest will take place close to 8 p.m. for anyone that would like to test paper airplane building skills. Participants will need to bring their paper airplanes to the event, and they will be able to launch them from the upper level of the gym. Prizes will be given for the greatest distance and longest flight time.
Kids are welcome to bring their remote control cars to operate in a designated area. This will be limited to "toy" versions so that the gym floor isn't marked up or damaged.
Entry fees are $10 per person operating a remote control aircraft, and spectators are encouraged to make a donation of $2 or more.
All proceeds will benefit the United Way of the Wabash Valley.
