North Clay's eighth-grade basketball teams improved their records with victories over visiting Edgewood on Tuesday evening.

The 'A' squad got out to a first quarter lead that eventually reached as many as 15 points before holding off a late Edgewood rally for a 47-36 win. The 'B' squad meanwhile put together a 10-2 run over the final three minutes of the game to score a 34-29 victory.

The Colts rallied in the third quarter against the 'A' team, getting a 3-pointer from Cameron Walls to cut the lead down to 35-28.

From there however, North Clay re-awakened, getting a score from Chance Talbot in the paint. Edgewood turned the ball over the next time down the court and Damon Hyatt made the most of the chance by knocking down a 3-pointer of his own.

The lead had quickly grown back to 12-points at 40-28 and Zach Hull, who led the team with a 14-point effort, finished the game by rebounding his own missed shot for a score that increased the advantage back to 14 at 42-28.

In the first half, the Knights were hot from the perimeter as Dillon Reynolds dropped in all three of his 3-point attempts and Hull added six points and four rebounds before the break. The lead grew to 27-12 at halftime as Chance Talbot added in six points of his own in the post.

Hull took over in the second half and was a monster on the boards and active getting to the basket for the Knights.

Hull had all six of North Clay's points in the third quarter, including a basket at the buzzer off a nice feed from Hyatt.

North Clay's Jacob Ninesling battles for a rebound with Edgewood's Dillon Akers-Edmonson. Ninesling had 15 points and five rebounds.
Hull would eventually finish off a 14-point, nine rebound night as Talbot contributed 11 and Reynolds reached double-digits, also with 11 for North Clay. Kodie Girton grabbed six rebounds for the Knights.

In the 'B' game, both teams struggled to take care of the ball during the early going, combining for 13 turnovers in the first quarter. But as the first six minute quarter shook out, it was apparent that Tuesday was going to be Jacob Ninesling's night.

His teammates found him for hoops twice in the opening quarter, but two more times in the second period in which he also grabbed two boards and blocked two shots.

Ninesling would eventually finish with 15 points and five rebounds in the victory, including a buzzer beater to end the game.

The Knights trailed 27-24 with three minutes remaining before making a late run against Edgewood, getting a hoop from Kodie Girton. Following a missed shot from the Colts' Jacob Bauer, Grant Stearley rebounded and fed the ball up-court where Ninesling beat the defense for a basket and a lead for the Knights.

Edgewood turned the ball over with 13 seconds left and Stearley grabbed the rebound to end the Colts' threat.

Jordan Girton had six points for the Knights who got eight players into the scoring column. Wheeer added four in the win.

The 'A' team improves to 12-2 overall while the 'B' squad is now 9-2. Each team will travel to Cascade on Thursday night.
