INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- A pair of Chevrolet Corvettes will be the pace cars for next year's Indianapolis 500, marking the fifth straight race for a version of the car to lead the field.
Two-time Indy winner Emerson Fittipaldi is to drive a Corvette Z06 during the race's pace lap. Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials announced Thursday that the Corvette will run on E85 ethanol fuel, which is similar to the 100 percent fuel-grade ethanol used in the IndyCar Series.
The other pace car for the May 25 race is a black-and-silver commemorative edition marking the 30th anniversary of the first Corvette pace car for the race. Chevrolet plans to produce 500 replicas in both coupe and convertible form, each signed by Fittipaldi at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky.
Chevrolet and Speedway officials unveiled the cars at the Indianapolis Auto Show.
