Investigation of accident continues

Thursday, December 27, 2007

Officials want to know why an unidentified teenager hit a tree with a pickup truck Wednesday night.

Around 8:45 p.m., dispatchers at the Clay County Justice Center were notified by the Terre Haute Police Department that a truck driven by a juvenile struck a tree in an area approximately a mile north of State Road 340 on County Road 650 West.

Members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Posey Volunteer Fire Dept., Clay County Search and Rescue and TransCare were dispatched to the scene. AirEvac was initially contacted because of the potential severity of the accident, but was later disregarded when the uninjured juvenile was found conscious outside the truck and talking to authorities on the scene.

Disregarding medical treatment at the scene, family members took the juvenile to Union Hospital.

As part of the ongoing accident investigation, CCSD Deputy James Switzer said the hospital was contacted about doing blood work to determine if the juvenile was under any type of influence while driving.
