LINTON, Ind. (AP) -- Jimmie K. Wright, mayor of Linton for two decades, has died. He was 72.
Wright died Thursday at his home. He had been in failing health for several years.
From 1984 to 2004 he was mayor of Linton, a city of about 5,700 people about 35 miles southwest of Bloomington.
Current Linton Mayor Tom Jones ordered all flags in the city lowered to half-staff in memory of Wright.
Wright was a 1953 Linton High School graduate. He guided the Greene County Democratic Party for 14 years.
"I really appreciated him," said Linton Clerk-Treasurer Jack Shelton, who graduated with Wright. "When he told anyone something, to him it was the truth and you could take it to the bank."
Wright is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie. He is also survived by three sons, one daughter, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, Linton Chapel.
