Campbell scores 19 in Purdue's Big Ten opening win

WEST LAFAYETTE -- Danielle Campbell scored 19 points as Purdue defeated Wisconsin 65-48 on Friday night to snap the Badgers' five-game winning streak.

Campbell shot 8-for-12 from the field and had six rebounds in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Natasha Bogdanova had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Lakisha Freeman added 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Boilermakers (5-6, 1-0 Big Ten).

Rae Lin D'Alie scored 14 points and Danielle Ward added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Badgers (7-4, 0-1).

Wisconsin guard Jolene Anderson was held to six points, ending her streak of consecutive games scoring in double figures at 39. She entered the game leading the Big Ten with 20 points per game.

Purdue shot 54 percent in the second half to win its 10th straight in the series. Wisconsin had been averaging 72 points per game, but its total on Friday was a season low.

Purdue led 19-11 in the first half before Wisconsin went on a 10-2 run, including two 3-pointers by Janese Banks, to tie the score at 21 and force a Boilermaker timeout.

Purdue recovered and went on an 8-3 run, including two baskets by Campbell, to take a 29-24 lead at halftime. Wisconsin shot 28 percent in the first half.

Purdue led 34-28 early in the second half before going on another 8-3 run, again highlighted by two baskets from Campbell, to take a 42-31 lead and force a Wisconsin timeout.

Bogdanova made back-to-back 3-pointers for Purdue after the timeout to make it a 48-31 lead with 11:45 to go.

Wisconsin made one last push. A scoop shot by Anderson cut Purdue's lead to 52-42 with 7:30 left, but Purdue scored the next six points to put the game out of reach.
