Both high schools in Clay County will be represented this summer in the land down under.

Clay City Jr./Sr. High School student Monique Richard will travel to Australia with People to People Student Ambassadors in June.

Richard was nominated to participate in the program by her principal, Jeff Bell.

She will be traveling in the same delegation as Ashley Roll, a Northview High School student.

Richard is looking forward to meeting other members of her delegation at the Jan. 13 meeting.

"I'm so happy about this, because I'm going to meet so many people who have different backgrounds, and I'll be able to learn so much from them," Richard said.

Richard is also looking forward to the sights of Australia.

"I've always wanted to see the (Sydney) Opera House, I've heard it's really big inside. I heard we get to climb the bridge, too. I'm terrified of heights, but I think it will be invigorating," Richard said.

Richard is working on raising money to cover the trip. She is sending letters to local businesses asking for contributions, and she will host a spaghetti dinner at a church in Clay City with a silent auction.

Richard and Roll are working together trying to find new ways to fund their trip.

Anyone wishing to contribute to Richard's trip may call her at 835-2082.
